*update* - Android 4.0 x86 is out!
The Android x86 Project team has recently released Android 3.2 and Android 2.3 Live CDs to the public. The Live CD is a disc that contains a bootable/installer for the Android operating system for desktop or laptop computers. While not being able to achieve the full functionality of the Android, it does well to give the user a good demo of the Android without a dedicated mobile device, and without making changes to your machine. These demos to the Android 3.2 / 2.3 operating system are not for long term use.
Of course, you could always test out the system by installing the SDK and the Android emulator... but that method is more for the developers, who are debugging peripherals and apps. The emulator is also 5 times slower.
By downloading the images(iso) below:
-You can boot directly into the Android 3.2/2.3 straight off the Live CD, if the image is burned into a disc.
OR
-You can install the Android OS 3.2/2.3 into a virtual machine, which can be done in less than 10 mins and is 2x faster then running off the Live CD.

These are not from Google. They are from the android-x86 project.
